On our first visit to the school we became interested in the hills between the “forest” and the school, which really stand out in a predominantly flat playground. We concluded that this would be the perfect location for a lookout deck, which the children could interpret and use as they wanted. Our original design called for the platform to project off from the top of the hill, providing space above and beneath the deck for the children to explore and inhabit. Due to permission issues, the day we were due to start building we had to redesign the platform to rest wholly on the flat top of the hill, maintaining the aesthetic values we had previously developed.
