Ladrillo Recargado

A part of the research of this group includes the Ladrillo Recargado (leaning bricks) also known as Bóvedas de Bajío (vaults of Bajío), which come from a traditional vaulting system in Bajío, Mexico. It differs from timbrel vaulting in having just one layer of bricks and relying on cement mortar. The architect Alfonso Ramírez, master in this vernacular tradition, gave a workshop in the University of Cambridge for the students of the Department of Architecture.
