Dr Timothy Brittain-Catlin spoke at a conference organised by researchers from the Universidad de San Buenaventura, Cali; the Universidad Nacional de Colombia; the Universitat Politécnica de Catalunya ETSAB and Kingston University on ‘The Middle Hall English House in Bogotá’ on 11th August.

The conference is accompanied by a substantial exhibition which analyses the form of the hall house in England, its development by A.W.N Pugin into the gothic revival pinwheel plan, its reinterpretation by arts and crafts architects and finally its reappearance in both modernist houses in Bogotá and in the city’s many unusual Tudor-gothic houses of the early-mid twentieth century.

The English sections of the exhibition drew substantially from Dr Brittain-Catlin’s 2008 book The English Parsonage in the Early Nineteenth Century. The exhibition continues until 28th October at the Universidad Nacional’s Leopoldo Rother architecture museum.
