The Department of Architecture is delighted to share that Assistant Professor Fiona Smyth has been shortlisted for the Royal Historical Society’s (RHS) prestigious First Book Prize for Early Career Historians. Her monograph, Pistols in St Paul's: Science, Music, and Architecture in the Twentieth Century, is one of only eight titles selected for the 2024 shortlist.
The RHS First Book Prize celebrates exceptional historical scholarship by early career researchers and is among the most respected awards in the field. Professor Smyth’s work, which explores the dynamic intersections of science, music, and architecture in twentieth-century Britain, was recognized by the RHS panel for its originality and interdisciplinary scope.
The final decision on this year’s two winning titles will be announced in early July. More information about the shortlist can be found on the RHS blog.
Congratulations to Professor Smyth on this significant achievement!
