Department of Architecture

Applications are invited for two full time or up to four part time Teaching Associates to take up an appointment from 1 September 2022. Appointments will be made on a 12 month fixed-term basis only.

The roles indicated are each part-time, 0.5 FTE. It may be possible for two roles to be combined to make a full-time role. If a full-time role may be of interest, please indicate this in your application.

Role A: To teach the first-year course in structural design. The first-year structures course provides a broad introduction to structural design for students with widely varying mathematical backgrounds. It is currently taught using graphic statics, which is preferred, but other approaches would be acceptable.

Role B: To convene the third year Case Study Course. The Third Year Case Studies Course involves arranging site visits to buildings and it would suit a structural engineer with experience of teaching architecture, or an architect with an understanding of structural engineering.

Role C: To teach the first-year building construction courses. The role-holder will be an architect or engineer by training with a strong understanding of building fabrication, willing to prepare and deliver weekly lectures and classes and provide at least 40 hours of supervision to students (usually in support studio work).

Role D: To teach the second-year building construction courses. The role-holder will be an architect or engineer by training with a strong understanding of building fabrication, willing to prepare and deliver weekly lectures and classes and provide at least 40 hours of supervision to students (usually in support studio work).

For all roles, it is expected that the post holder will prove a minimum of 40 hours of supervision which is paid for separately by the Colleges.

Contributing to administrative duties, commensurate with the role, within the Department will be important and all roles involve marking of examinations and involvement in the marking of studio work at the end of each term.

Candidates must be skilled in successfully developing and delivering teaching in building technology at university level, and have experience of developing teaching material for lectures and seminars, by introducing innovative material or developing and shaping course activities.

It is anticipated that candidates will have a very good first degree in Architecture or Engineering and have completed or be about to complete a PhD in Architecture or a closely related area, or equivalent demonstrable experience and/or a teaching qualification as appropriate

The closing date for applications is midnight (BST) on Tuesday 5 July 2022. Interviews of short-listed candidates will take place on Friday 15 July 2022 For queries about the application process, please email the Schools HR team on sahhr@admin.cam.ac.uk.
