Julian Lewis (Co-founder and Director of the Architecture, Urban Design and Landscape Practice: East)

'East' is an architectural practice that takes an urban perspective on London's city landscape in addressing urban, landscape and architectural projects. Our interest is in determining what role architecture has in the city, and in affecting relationships within the built environment; the uses, atmosphere, spatial identity, and material extents that can be designed , influenced and perceived. Our designs are selective, place specific, and, like the city itself, hold attributes of unevenness in their process abd resolution.

In this lecture, some of our design methods, and a range of early and recent projects, including a few high streets, will illustrate these ideas and intentions.

Julian has been teaching and lecturing since 1992. He has extensive experience of developing ideas, design and research as well as project implementation. He is once of the Mayor of London Design Advocates advising Sadiq Khan on the Good Growth manifesto in terms of design quality.
