Mark Walton (Founding Director Shared Assets)

This talk will explore established and emerging examples of urban land being managed  for the common good, and the opportunities and challenges presented by current approaches to the planning, development and management of urban spaces. It will outline what is meant by 'common good land use', providing examples from the UK of food growing, parks and woodland management, and the reclamation of derelict land, as well as some of the issues around planning and land value capture. The discussion will draw on Shared Assets' extensive research and advocacy work focused on reforming the use, access and governance of land in order that it might meet our shared needs and interests.
