MSt Building History Alumnus Tszwai So wins prize for memorial proposal

Tszwai So who is the director of Spheron Architects and alumnus of the MSt Building History course, has won an international competition to design a pan-European memorial for the victims of totalitarianism.  The project will be constructed in Place Jean Rey, in Brussels.

Tszwai said that the design concept was very simple and that he saw himself as a messenger: collecting letters written between the victims and their loved ones and dropping them in the middle of Place Jean Rey, letting their powerful stories reveal themselves.  Following a worldwide appeal he received permission to use nearly 40,000 letters in multiple languages that have been in the possession of various individuals and institutions.
