Department of Architecture

City+2

City+ is a ‘Coming Together’ event for PhD students and Postdocs working on interdisciplinary fields on cities.  The event was held at the Department of Architecture on 23 September as a prelude to the Martin Centre’s 50th anniversary celebrations.  Seventy delegates from 18 universities across the UK, Netherland, Denmark, Italy and China attended the event.

The one-day event brought together participants working on a diverse range of disciplines, from social equality and right to cities, to urban mobility, regeneration, housing, environment, energy, data analytics and smart technology.  What brought them together was the willingness to engage outside their respective comfort zones of research.

Professor François Penz, the incoming Head of the Department of Architecture, delivered an opening address.  The conference began and ended with two keynote speakers, i.e., Prof Marcial Echenique from Cambridge and Dr Ryan Scarrow from Nature Sustainability. In between, four plenary sessions were chaired by Dr Deborah Potts (KCL), Dr Ying Jin (Cambridge), Dr Yeonsook Heo (Cambridge), and Dr Chen Zhong (KCL) with 30 papers.  The poster sessions have exhibited 35 research posters.  The event was led by Tianren Yang and Yongping Zhang working with an organising committee of Mengqiu Cao (UCL), Zhicheng Liu (UCL), Dr Zhifu Mi (UEA), and Yang Song (KCL).

The conference was made possible through sponsorship by the University of Cambridge School of Arts and Humanities.
