We are proud to note that Sumita Singha OBE, an alumna of our MPhil in Environmental Design in Architecture, has been awarded an OBE for services to architecture.

Sumita is an award-winning international architect, activist and author, and is the director of her design practice Eco=logic. She founded Architects for Change – the equality forum at the Royal Institute of British Architects – and is past chair of Women in Architecture. She is a trustee of Architects Benevolent Society and is a member of the Board of the Commonwealth Association of Architects. Furthermore, Sumita is a non-executive director of Moorfields Eye Hospital, part of the Sustainable Development Unit at Public Health England and a fellow of Cambridge Commonwealth Trust.

Her OBE was preceded by a UIA:UNESCO International design award, Women in Business award at the House of Commons and AJ Atkins Inspire ward for architecture. Sumita set up an environmental design charity – Charushila – and was included in an exhibition about 28 women who had made a difference to the life and culture of Britain.

​Her publications include: ‘Architecture for Rapid Change and Scarce Resources’ (Routledge, 2012); ‘Autotelic Architect’ (Routledge, 2016); the four volume ‘Women in Architecture’ (Routledge, 2018) and; ‘Future Healthcare Design’ (RIBA Publishing, 2020).
