In 2008 Professor Alan Short was tasked with designing a hospital that could self-regulate its temperature. Professor Short, who has a long history in environmental architecture and has designed several self-regulating buildings, envisaged a solution that was completely naturally ventilated and cooled. The resulting design was simple but proved to be very successful at temperature regulation.
