A project by Wesam Al Asali and Sofia Singler has been published in Pidgin, the journal of the Princeton University School of Architecture.

The ongoing project, It Washes Away, interrogates questions related to the fragility of heritage, memory and built form, particularly in the context of war. Throughout various iterations, the project has explored the use of traditional Aleppo soap as a construction material. In the iteration published in issue 25 of Pidgin, a soap-cast window of Khan al-Wazir in Aleppo, Syria, eponymously washes away.

For more information, and to order copies of the journal, please visit the Pidgin website.

For documentation of previous iterations of the project, see Al Asali’s IWlab.
