Department of Architecture

Celebrating thirty years into its own journey, Scroope 31 pauses in self-reflection to interrogate the very purpose behind architectural publications.

Beyond one-off manifestos and celebrated books, architectural publications can be extended spaces of recurring expression and discussion – from influential magazines, and school-based journals to online platforms.

This issue asks: how can we critically understand architectural publications? The quirky little yellow pocketbook features a diverse range of voices from architects, historians, editors and academics as they each interrogate the journey and contribution of an architectural magazine and critically reflect on the role of writing within the discipline.
