Department of Architecture

The Department would like to congratulate Dr Ramit Debnath, Assistant Professor, on the publication of ‘Physics-based machine learning for predicting urban air pollution using decadal time series data’ in Environmental Research Communications.

In this collaborative work with Caltech, researchers develop a new model and shows how PBML—which integrates physical laws into machine learning—can deliver better accuracy and explainability in air pollution prediction tasks. Using traffic, weather, and pollution data of over 10 years (2009–2018) from three Norwegian cities, researchers found that PBML outperforms state-of-the-art models in predicting air pollution levels. This approach enables hyperlocal, data-driven insights to inform smarter policy decisions.
