Department of Architecture

 

Applications are invited for up to four Teaching Associates to take up an appointment from 1 September 2022. We have two full time positions and two part time positions (0.6 FTE). These positions are fixed-term for 12 months (1 September 2022 until 30 August 2023).

The post-holders will have exemplary teaching track records, with research publications in the field of architectural history and/or theory.

The purpose of the role is to contribute to course development, innovation, teaching and examining for undergraduate/ graduate students principally within the area of History and Theory of Architecture to support and maintain the University's national and international reputation for excellence.

The full-time role teaching within the Department will involve leading a course in History and Theory in Michaelmas Term to the third-year students, a lecture course in the Lent Term to the second years, setting and marking coursework which provides the grades in these courses, and where necessary conducting seminars and small group teaching in the form of supervisions. The holder would also be expected to attend the relevant courses and provide at least 80 hours of supervisions for their own courses and for first year undergraduates and for dissertations for which additional remuneration would be made by the Colleges.

The part-time roles involve providing a single lecture course. The holder would also be expected to attend the relevant courses and provide at least 40 hours of supervisions for their own courses and for first year undergraduates and for dissertations for which additional remuneration would be made by the Colleges.

In all cases the appointee will be expected to contribute to administrative duties, commensurate with the role. Those suitably qualified will be asked to assist in marking studiowork or dissertations at graduate and undergraduate level as appropriate.

Candidates must be skilled in successfully developing and delivering teaching in architecture and design at university level, have experience of developing teaching material for lectures and seminars, by introducing innovative material or developing and shaping course activities.

Candidates must have: a very good first degree in Architecture or History of Art and have completed, or be about to complete a PhD in Architectural History or Theory, or have equivalent demonstrable experience and/or hold a teaching qualification as appropriate.
