On December 2025 and January 2026, Dr Irit Katz, together with Dr Gabriel Karubanga and a team from Makerere University, organised two workshops In the districts of Hoima and Kasese in Uganda to investigate and respond to growing climate-related vulnerabilities in refugee-hosting districts, where environmental degradation, rapid population growth, displacement, and limited access to water, sanitation, food security, and financial services continue to undermine livelihoods and community well-being.
The Communities of Hosts and Refugees Transitioning to Climate Resilience (CHART-CR) project is a collaborative initiative between Cambridge and Makerere, implemented in partnership with key stakeholders to strengthen climate resilience among refugees and host communities in Uganda, funded by the MasterCard Foundation and Cambridge-Africa.
