Speaker bio:

Nicholas Ray read architecture at Trinity College from 1966-69 but took his Diploma at University College London and worked for Colin St John Wilson on the British Library before returning to Cambridge. From 1973 – 2020 he practiced successively within Hughes and Bicknell, Nicholas Ray Associates and NRAP (thereby confusing the recent Pevsner Buildings of England) whilst simultaneously teaching at the Department, retiring as a Reader. He is currently an Emeritus Fellow of Jesus College, Cambridge, and an Honorary Visiting Professor at the University of Liverpool. His publications include numerous essays and monographs on Alvar Aalto and (with Francisco González de Canales) Rafael Moneo (both Yale University Press; his most recent book is Thinking Through Twentieth-Century Architecture. (Routledge 2023).
