Cambridge University Centre for Risk in the Built Environment (CURBE)

The research carried out at the Cambridge University Centre for Risk in the Built Environment (CURBE) is in the general field of assessment and mitigation of risks to the built environment from natural hazards - earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and extremes of climate. The overall aim of this work is to improve understanding of the performance of building structures at an urban scale and to create computer modeling tools for risk assessment and for the evaluation of the cost-effectiveness of building strengthening and other mitigation work.

The methodologies developed in our projects are applied to other study areas through Cambridge Architectural Research Ltd.
