Mark Shtanov

My current MPhil thesis is looking at Hospitality Architecture in West Africa. My research investigates the hotel’s role in the city and ways to make it better suited for the region both physically and socially. Being both theoretical and propositional, my work will consist of a written research thesis, as well as a speculative design proposal. In order to establish a thorough understanding of the situation on the ground and make a study of various precedents I am using the academic fieldwork period to travel to Nigeria, Ghana and Hong Kong.

Biography:

Before Cambridge I studied at the University of Bath, went to school at Bradfield College, participated in an exchange programme with the Technical University of Munich and worked on placements at TP Bennett and Arkhenspaces, two architectural offices in London and in Paris. Before my studies in the UK I lived in Russia, where I originally come from.
