Professor Michael H. Ramage, Director of the Centre for Natural Material Innovation (CNMI) at the University of Cambridge and Fellow of Sidney Sussex College, attended a reception hosted by His Majesty King Charles III at St James’s Palace on 15 October 2025.

The event, organised by the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA) — an initiative founded by His Majesty in 2020 — brought together scientists, business leaders, and indigenous representatives from around the world to discuss the interconnections between nature and human health, and to share innovative solutions for a sustainable and regenerative future.

Speaking after the reception, Professor Ramage said:

“It was a privilege to meet His Majesty and to join a conversation that bridges science, policy, and practice. The CBA’s leadership highlights how the bioeconomy can redefine our relationship with nature, and it aligns closely with the Centre’s mission to develop low-carbon, nature-based materials for buildings and cities.”
The Centre for Natural Material Innovation is internationally recognised for its research into engineered timber, bamboo, and other bio-based materials. Its work seeks to transform the global construction sector, reducing carbon emissions while enhancing social and ecological resilience.
