How can we think differently and creatively about the stories and encounters with marine spaces as places, landscapes and environments? Through the many theoretical and critical approaches to this topic, we seek to explore the potential creative and experimental methodologies. In this workshop we use the term ‘sea edge’ to consider the space between land and sea as a liminal space that opens up ways to creatively imagine our relationship with our marine environment. This session will test out different scenarios of edge conditions – between natural, the managed, the designed and the planned - and how these create opportunities for change. We will explore how creative approaches can lead to pathways for engagement and care for marine and coastal environments. The aim is to look at the broader implications for how these allow a more inclusive understanding of how marine places at the boundary between land and sea can continue to shape a sustainable future.

The workshop is an interactive and participatory discussion between collaborators and the audience to explore reflections, commonalities and divergences in themes and ideas around creative approaches. We will then explore ideas and interventions towards shaping spaces at the edge, between sea and land, and how these can shape more sustainable futures.
