Book entitled 'African Modernism: Architecture and Independence' co-edited by Ingrid Schroeder wins the gold medal for the best art book of 2015 at the "Festival International du Livre d’Art et du Film" (FILAF)

"African Modernism - Architecture of Independence" was published in conjunction with an exhibition on the same topic that opened at the Vitra Design Museum Gallery.

The book focuses on the architecture that was built during the 1960s and 70s in the context of the independence of the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa. The project documents and analyses the architecture in Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Kenya and Zambia. Buildings such as the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi, the Foire Internationale de Dakar, the Hotel Ivoire in Abidjan, or the National Museum in Accra represent some of the best architecture of their era world wide, though having been mostly ignored by the architectural discourse.
