Cambridge University’s 2014 Summer Show was held in a Victorian warehouse behind Foster + Partners’ office. Spencer de Grey, head of design at Foster’s and the Dutch urbanist Hans van der Heijden are both active visiting professors at Cambridge. The influence of these practicing architects can be seen in the students’ work, which has an air of restraint and reality, suggesting they are well versed in building design. The polished confidence of many second year pieces is comparable to the third year of most schools. Drawings, models and renders are handled with great skill.
In the article Meredith Bowles of Mole Architects describes Studio 2 as a standout unit. Praising the ambition of Design Fellows Nikolai Delvendahl and Eric Martin and highlighting the inventiveness of their student, Joaquín García Calderón.
